General review
Castor oil
This oil is extracted from the oilseed of the flax seed (linseed) and was also produced in Iran in the past, but today the main, high-quality variety is the European type.
It dries on the surface within a week and through to the depth within six months. Linseed oil, without the need for drying additives, dries on its own and forms its own characteristic film.
Linseed oil is used as a solvent for artists' oil paint, facilitating the flow and brushability of the paint. Heat-treated linseed oil becomes thick and stiff and is used in industrial paints.
Overall, in oil painting, linseed oil is a versatile and very practical resin and solvent. .
